FX Program Q&A

This month we want to focus on the Frontline Experience Program, so I asked Josh Trainer, FMI’s Mobilization Coordinator, some questions about the program:

1.     What is the FX1 application period and deadline?

The application window is from September – December. We make decisions for summer teams around the first of the year, so we are in the application time right now.

2.     What is the first step in the application process? Can you give a brief description of the process from beginning to end?

Before we send an application, I like to have a chat or meet with potential candidates. So, the best way to take the first step is to go to the Frontline website and fill out the interest form on the FX page. I’ll connect with them after I get that and set up a time to discuss the program and the application process to see if the FX program would be a good fit for them.

3.     What are we looking for in an FX intern?

The FX Program is open to people between 20-35 (singles and young families). We are looking for those who are considering long-term work in harder to reach places. FX1 is a first step for those discerning if this is the direction God is leading them. I often tell people that sermons, books, classes, etc. are helpful but field experience is really the best way to discern and determine what next steps could or should look like.

4.     What can an intern expect from the program?

FX1 is a two-month program with a team of 4-6 interns. It starts with several days of training at the FMI Home Office, followed by approximately 7 weeks of field experience, and then several days of debriefing back at the Home Office. We focus on ministry, language, daily life/culture, and individual giftings/strengths. Each intern will get practical, hands-on, real-life experiences in each of these categories while also receiving mentorship by veteran field team members.

5.     What else would you like to say to someone considering applying for the FX Program?

·       “When in doubt, reach out.” If someone is even remotely interested, I’d love to talk.

·       Many of our interns had someone recommend the program to them, so even if FX isn’t a good fit for you, please share this information with someone who may be interested.

·       If your church leadership has questions about how to think about missionary development in their church, I’d love to talk with them.

·       Contact me at josh@frontlinemissions.info if you have any questions about the FX program. I’d love to talk to you!
