About Us

In the waning days of summer 1914, the German army rolled through much of Belgium and northern France in the opening round of World War I. French defenses were shattered and the troops near collapse as the Germans came within sight of the capital—the great prize of Paris before them. The French general, Ferdinand Foch, sized up the situation: “My center is giving way, my right is in retreat; situation excellent. J’attaque! (I attack!)” The feisty Foch responded to this overwhelming situation by going on the offensive, and it worked. The French turned back the enemy from the gates of Paris.

When we match the spiritual and political conditions of the world today with the scope of our marching orders—“Go ye into all the world and preach the Gospel to every creature”—it, too, is overwhelming. Yet our Captain gives us a simple command, “J’attaque!”

That very idea is found in Matthew 16:18 where Christ said, “I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.” He empowers us to go forward, sharing the Gospel, enlarging His Church, and breaking down the enemy’s strongholds. Retreat is not an option. Given the inadequacy of our strength and resources, His simple command is simply impossible. Yet Christ graciously adds to it the unfailing promise of His presence. “All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. . . lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world.” (Matthew 28:18, 20)

As a mission—or to keep the figure going, as a “company of soldiers”—we have a key objective and a core strategy. Our key objective is to advance the Gospel and form vibrant, Word-centered, disciple-making churches, especially in those regions of the world that have the least Light. We are driven by the same desire that animated the Apostle Paul who said it was always his ambition to preach the Gospel where Christ was not known (Romans 15:20). How do we pursue our goal? We do so by equipping Christians on the frontlines to reach their own people for Christ, by forming strategic partnerships with them, and by developing creative platforms in those areas of the world closed to traditional missions.

For nearly 20 years Frontline Missions International has worked among people in areas of war, persecution, and poverty, primarily in restricted-access countries, seeking to strengthen the Church, give voice to persecuted Christians, and preach and publish the Good News.
