Persecution Update August 2011: Iran

Iranian pastor Yousef Nadarkhani, 34, was sentenced to death by hanging for the charge of apostasy. As pastor of around 400 believers who meet in house churches, he has been arrested numerous times and has been in custody since his most recent arrest in October 2009. His sentence is being appealed because Nadarkhani claims he was never a Muslim before believing in Christ at age 19, so the Iranian Supreme Court put his execution on hold pending further investigation. Even if this sentence is overturned, he still faces the charge of converting Muslims to Christ. Officials arrested his wife and detained her for a time, and they continually threaten to arrest her again and take their two young children. Please pray for God’s grace for Pastor Nadarkhani and his family as they shine for Christ.
