Persecution Update for April 2010: Egypt

egypt-puChristians in Egypt continue to suffer for Christ because the government is attempting to follow radical Islamic law. Sharia mandates death for anyone who leaves Islam for another religion. Although Egypt hasn't been able to enforce this punishment, they do make it as difficult as possible for those who convert. Maher Ahmad El-Gorhary, 56, converted to Christ reading the New Testament and appealed to have his ID card change to “Christian.”  Because he lost his case, his daughter Dina will be identified as “Muslim” on her ID card, meaning she can attend only Muslim classes in school. Pray for God’s special grace for them and for other believers in Egypt, including the families of seven Christians who were murdered during services last Christmas.
