Persecution Update for October 2009: North Korea

north_koreaNorth Korea, where even owning a Bible is a crime, continues to top the list as the worst persecutor of Christians. An estimated 60,000 believers suffer in prisons.  On June 16th, 2009, a 33-year-old Christian mother, Ri Hyon Ok, was publicly executed for distributing the Bible and for allegedly being a spy.  The next day her husband, three children, and parents were put in prison.  The penalty for having a Bible includes the imprisonment of three generations of one’s family.  Please intercede on behalf of these suffering believers, asking God for special grace for their testimonies to shine for Christ.
