Persecution Update July 2009: Nigeria

Used with permission from Compass Direct

The US Commission on International Religious Freedom has designated Nigeria as one of the worst persecutors of Christians.  Last winter Muslims in the northern part of the country viciously attacked the Christian community—burning 40 churches, killing some 500 people, and leaving 25,000 people homeless. One of the pastors shot at his church was Joseph Yari. His wife said publicly that she had forgiven the murderers because “they were ignorant of the crime they have committed because they do not know Jesus Christ.” Pray that the incredible forgiveness demonstrated by Christians in Nigeria will lead many Muslims to salvation.
