Persecution Update June 2012: Somalia
June 1st, 2012 by Frontline Missions
Christians in the Muslim country of Somalia comprise only about three-tenths of one percent of the population. These Christians have been increasingly victimized by the terrorist group al Shabaab, which has ties to al Qaeda. In September 2011, two young Christian men were murdered. One was Juma Kamil, a former Muslim who converted to Christ three years earlier. Kamil was kidnapped and beheaded by al Shabaab, and his body was left exposed to the elements for two days. Then, in January 2012, Zakaria Omar, age 26, was decapitated on the outskirts of Mogadishu. Omar had come to Christ seven years earlier in Ethiopia, and he had returned to Somalia to work for a Christian humanitarian organization.
Please pray for God’s comfort for the families of Juma Kamil and Zakaria Omar, Christian brothers “of whom the world was not worthy.” Pray also that the Gospel will continue to bring Muslims out of darkness to the light of Christ, despite the risks.
